Abstract

1492875 Monitoring body volume variations H LEUMER 12 March 1975 10288/75 Heading G1N (E) In a device for monitoring the variations in volume (respiration) of a human or animal body strain gauges 3 are attached to a flexible strip 2 that is connected at either end to strips of non-elastic material 5 and 6 to form a belt, intended to encircle the patient. When in use, Fig. 2, only the middle portion of the flexible strip rests on the chest as shown. The flexible strip may be covered by a protective sheath of plastics or rubber 9 and the sheath may be further protected (when not in use) by solid covering means 11 also Fig. 3 (not shown). The covering means is attached at the centre of the strip 2 by a pivot pin 8. When in use the covering means may be swung through 90 degrees Fig. 4 (not shown) to help to transfer volume variations along its length to the flexible strip. The electrical outputs of the strain gauges are fed to a bridge circuit.
