Description

(54) IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO PROTECTIVE BREATHING APPARATUS (71) We, AUERGESELLSCHAFT GMBH, a German Body Corporate, of 24 Friedrich Krause-Ufer, 1000 BERLIN 65 (West), Federal Republic of Germany, do hereby declare the invention, for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement: - The present invention relates to protective breathing apparatus of the kind that is attached to the wearer's person and has a mouthpiece for insertion into the mouth.
Apparatus of this kind is generally attached to the body and also the head but often does not sit satisfactorily on the head of the wearer and is prone to slipping so that it soon becomes uncomfortable. It is therefore an object of the invention to remedy this drawback and to enable the apparatus also to be suitable for different shapes and sizes of head, and be easier to put on and take off than known apparatus.
Accordingly, the invention consists in protective breathing apparatus having a mouthpiece wherein said mouthpiece is connected to a net arranged in use to rest against the top and back of the head of the wearer, leaving the ears free.
One embodiment of the invention is shown in the single Figure of the accompanying drawings by way of example.
In this Figure, reference numeral 1 refers to the mouth-piece of a protective breathing apparatus, which is held in position by means of a net 4 arranged to rest against the top and back of the wearer's head, leaving the ears free, the tapes 2 passing around the ears. The net is supported by and arranged between the tapes 2, whose lengths may be made variable e.g. by making them wholly of elastic material or by having elastic inserts 3 therein. The net 4 itself may be wholly or in part elastic. If desired, the tapes 2 may be detachably fastened to the apparatus i.e. to the mouthpiece 1. To prevent the net 4 stretching too much its extension may be restricted by cross straps located between the tapes 2.
WHAT WE CLAIM IS: 1. Protective breathing apparatus having a mouthpiece, wherein said mouthpiece is connected to a net arranged in use to rest against the top and back of the head of the wearer, leaving the ears free.
2. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1, wherein the net is supported by and arranged between tapes.
3. Apparatus as claimed in claim 2, wherein the net is arranged between two tapes arranged to pass round the ears of the wearer.
4. Apparatus as claimed in any of the preceding claims wherein the net is wholly or in part elastic.
5. Apparatus as claimed in any of claims 2 to 4, wherein the tapes have elastic portions.
6. Apparatus as claimed in any of claims 2 to 5, wherein the lengths of the tapes are variable.
7. Apparatus as claimed in any of claims 2 to 6, wherein the tapes are detachably fastened to the apparatus.
8. Apparatus as claimed in claims 2 to 7, wherein cross-tapes are provided which restrict any extension of the net.
9. Protective breathing apparatus substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawing.
