Abstract

1,086,560. Device for use with prosthesis apparatus. D. BELZIDSKY. Jan. 21, 1966 [Feb. 1, 1965], No. 2793/66. Heading ASR. A device for securing flexible protective material between the stump of a limb and prosthesis apparatus connected thereto comprises an adjustable elongate flexible member capable of being secured about the prosthesis apparatus adjacent the stump, and means carried on the external surface of the member for fastening thereto the said protective material. As shown, a nylon sheath 1 and knitted cap 21 are secured in the socket of prosthesis apparatus 9 by strap 9a which has buttons 8a and 8b fastened to corresponding button-holes in sheath and cap. Alternatively (Fig. 2, not shown), strap 9a may have circular bands of "Velcro" fastening material to which complementary pieces of "Velcro" fastening material on sheath and cap may be fastened. The word "Velcro" is a Registered Trade Mark. The strap is preferably made of two parts having a right trapezoidal form which are connected along their inclined edges, for instance, by an elastic strip. The parts may be made of leather. The internal surface of the strap may be roughened, and may have "Velcro"' fastening material at one end for attachment to "Velcro" fastening material on the external surface (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown).
