Abstract
1492672 Lighters HONEYWELL Inc 8 Jan 1975 [10 Jan 1974] 705/75 Heading F4F [Also in Division H5] The igniting zone 11 and lower resistance flanking terminal zones 12, 13 of a gas igniter 10 are made of different compositions principally composed of silicon carbide and a chemically resistant glass which is essentially a sodaalumina-borosilicate glass having very little alkali and a high silica content, and the compositional transition from the igniting zone 11 to the terminal zones 12 and 13 is gradual. The igniting zone 11 has a negative temperature coefficient of resistance and the terminal zones 12 and 13 a positive temperature coefficient of resistance. The composition of the igniter includes ferro-silicon, TiO 2 , ZrO 2 and fused silica as well as SiC and chemically resistant glass. The boro-silicate glass forms an oxidation resistant film on the element. The element is made by hot pressing in a die, by hot isostatic pressing by cold pressing and subsequent sintering or vapour deposition.
