Abstract
1492605 Purifying gases F CELORIO-MENDOZA 7 Nov 1974[8 Nov 1973] 18933/77 Divided out of 1492604 Heading C lA [Also in Division B 1] A process for cleaning a gaseous effluent polluted by water-entrainable solid and/or gaseous impurities comprises introduing the effluent into a conduit by means of a forced draft, introducing also a volume of steam sufficient to form with the effluent a saturated steam/effluent mixture, condensing the steam so that the water formed entrains the impurities and separately discharging the pollutant containing water and cleaned effluent. If the impurities are non-waterentrainable then they may be converted to being water-entrainable by adding before the steam condensation one or more substances. In the example an effluent containing fluorine gas is treated with pulverized lime to convert the fluorine to fluorite in the conduit. The process is preferably carried out in the apparatus disclosed in parent Specification (see Divisions B1-B2).
