Abstract
1492304 Anhydrous alkali metal metasilicates ZINKWIT NEDERLAND BV 1 May 1975 [6 May 1974] 18298/75 Heading ClA Anhydrous alkali metal metasilicates are prepared from sand and alkali metal carbonate by granulating the mixture and then thermally treating the granulated mix in a furnace below the melting point of the alkali metal metasilicate. In particular, ground silver sand of particle size not greater than 50 Ám and anhydrous Na 2 CO 3 may be mixed in suitable quantities to yield a molar ratio of SiO 2 /Na 2 O in the product from 0À8 to 1À1; (b) compacting the mix between rollers at a pressure of 3-11 tonnes/cm. and (c) granulating the resulting plates or briquettes, the granules 0À3 to 3 mm. in size being separated and thermally treated to yield the sodium metasilicate. The thermal treatment may be undertaken in a fluidized bed at 650‹ to 1050‹ C.
