1491976 Oxidative fractionation of hydrocarbons MAGYAR ASVANYOLAJ ES FOLDGAZ KISERLETI INTEZET 23 May 1975 [28 May 1974] 22546/75 Heading C5E A process for the production of a condensed aromatic hydrocarbon fraction and a pyrolysis heavy resin fraction from a starting material of by-products boiling above 180‹ C. arising in the thermal cracking of hydrocarbons, comprises pre-heating the starting material to a temperature within the range of 170 to 220‹ C., oxidizing the pre-heated material at 180 to 300‹ C. for 0À5 to 10 hours with air fed at a rate of 0À05 to 1À5 parts by weight per hour per part by weight of material being oxidized, and continuously or intermittently separating the aromatic hydrocarbon fraction from the pyrolysis heavy resin fraction by carrier-gas distillation with the air as the oxidation proceeds.
