Abstract
1479331 C 6 -C 18 n-alpha-olefins TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 30 Sept 1974 [31 Oct 1973] 42305/74 Heading C5E C 6 -C 18 n-alpha-olefins are prepared by (a) preheating a was charge stock to thermal cracking temperature, during which it passes through a temperature range of 625-800 F. in a time of less than 8 seconds; (b) thermally cracking the preheated wax feedstock in vapour phase in the presence of steam; and (c) recovering from the cracking effluent C 6 -C 18 n-alphaolefins while maintaining the severity value at less than 66.6, the severity value being defined as Int + 0À096 T where T is the log-mean average temperature in F. of the liquid and t is the residence time in the recovery system. The recovery of the C 6 -C 18 α-olefins may be carried out by rectification of the cracking effluent followed by distillation of the rectifier bottom fraction to recover the desired olefins as overhead. A portion of the distillation residue may be recycled as quench liquid to the cracking effluent.
