Abstract
1491287 Beverage compositions BEECHAM GROUP Ltd 22 June 1976 [26 JuneÀ1975] 27077/75 Heading C6E [Also in Division A2] A beverage is prepared by mixing together in water milk protein, a carboxymethylcellulose salt and an edible acid, and pasteurizing, in amounts such that: y # 0À4x + 0À2 where y = wt. per cent of C.M.C. x = wt. per cent of protein, the pH being 2À5 to 4À0. The acid may be citric malic, lactic or tartaric. The milk protein may be present as dried whole or skimmed milk, substantially pure casein, or whole or skimmed milk may be used in liquid form. The preferred amount of protein is 2À0 to 3À5%. The C.M.C. salt may be sodium C.M.C. having a viscosity of 100 cp in 3% w/w solution and a D.S. of 0À7 to 0À8. A sweetener e.g. sucrose, glucose, invert sugar or saccharin, a fruit juice and flavourings and colourings may be added. The beverage may be carbonated.
