Abstract
1491071 Structural joints D MAXWELL 24 Oct 1975 [2 Jan 1975] 19/75 Heading F2M A connector for joining panels at angles to each other to form bore-like structures consists of a triangular prismatic body having sides 1, 2 which in use abut respective panels A, B, Fig. 8, sides 3, 4 of triangular shape integrally joined to the sides 1, 2, hollow spigots 6, 10 integral with the sides 2, 1 respectively for fitting in locating holes in the respective panels, the bore 7 in the spigot 6 being of constant diameter, while bore 14 in the spigot 10 has a counterbore 15 and is countersunk at 16. By this means, either both bores 7, 14 can receive selftapping screws 8 passed through countersunk washers 17 fitted in the locating holes in two panels engaging the sides 1, 2, or, as shown in Fig. 5, the spigot 10 can be sawn short at the plane X-X, Fig. 3, so that two or more connectors can be arranged as in Fig. 5 to connect three or more panels. Preferably, the external diameter of spigot 10 is reduced at 13 to facilitate sawing off the end of the spigot at the plane X-X. Fig. 8 shows an integral appendage 18 bearing a hollow spigot 19 for attaching a panel C at right angles to panels A and B. A hole 21 is also provided for attaching a relatively thin panel in place of panel C, in which case the appendage 18 may be omitted (Fig. 9, not shown).
