Abstract

1490861 Attenuators and dissipative terminations GENERAL ELECTRIC CO Ltd 29 Jan 1975 [29 Jan 1974] 04041/74 Heading H1W An attenuator or dissipative termination for a stripline comprises an element of ferrite material disposed in a recess of the dielectric substrate adjacent the line conductor. The element exhibits low-field magnetic loss if the frequency f is not less than, γ(H A + 4#M s ) where HA is the anisotropy magnetic field of the ferrite, 4#M s is the saturation magnetization of the ferrite and γ is the gyromagnetic ratio of the ferrite. A suitable material is isotropic barium hexaferrite which exhibits low-field loss up to 60 GHz. In an attenuator (Fig. 1, not shown), the circular element is located in a recess in the substrate under the strip. In the circulator/isolator of Fig. 4, a segment 15 of the discoid gyromagnetic element 13 is made of barium hexaferrite. Stub section 21, forming one of the parts of the circulator, overlies the segment 15.
