Abstract
1490449 Air heating apparatus BRITISH GAS CORP 9 Sept 1976 [22 Sept 1975] 38746/75 Heading F4S [Also in Division G1] A calorimeter comprises a first heat exchanger (Fig. 2) to which a measured supply of fuel gas and air is admitted at an inlet tube 19 and a secondary supply of air is admitted at an inlet 22, the two supplies meeting and burning at a slotted burner 17, 18. The combustion products pass into a domed chamber 31 and through tubes 26-29 to outlets 51. Air is drawn by a circulator (6, Fig. 1, not shown) through an inlet 30 to pass around the tubes 26-29, through tubes 32-39, past a baffle 52 and through an outlet 16. A second heat exchanger, Fig. 3, comprises an electric heater 47 and baffles 46, an air inlet 50 and outlet 45. Platinum reistance thermometers are located at the inlets and outlets of both exchangers. The heater 47 is controlled by circuitry (Fig. 4, not shown) to produce in the second exchanger a temperature rise in the gas equal to that which it underwent while in the first exchanger.
