Abstract

1490426 Glass furnaces SAINT-GOBAIN INDUSTRIES 21 Feb 1975 [22 Feb 1974 7 Oct 1974] 7370/75 Heading ClM The central part of the surface flow of a glassmelt from the fusion section to the conditioning section of a furnace is diverted downwards by a suspended barrier extending into the surface flow so that it is taken up by the return current therebelow while the side parts of the surface flow continue undiverted. The barrier may obstruct from “-2/3 of the width of the flow and may be immersed to the extent of 1/5-¢ of the depth of the glass. The barrier may be cooled by circulating fluid, may be made as an integral whole or as a plurality of separate elements and may be in the form of agitators or a bubble producer.
