1489742 Testing line transmission systems POST OFFICE 17 Oct 1974 [17 July 1973] 15357/77 Divided out of 1489741 Heading H4R The description is substantially the same as that of parent Specification 1,489,741, but the claims relate to the testing of that part of a 4-wire, 2-way telecommunications circuit which is terminated by a hybrid junction, To perform the test, the hybrid is first unbalanced, e.g. by the opening of contact 33. Next, a test signal, preferably a digitally encoded VF tone, is transmitted on one path 37 of the 4-wire circuit towards the hybrid. Finally the other path 36 of the circuit is monitored, receipt of the signal thereon verifying circuit continuity.
