PURPOSE:To permit continuity test of switching netwrok without increase in hardware by making common use of an audible sound transmitter and receiver used for ordinary service in the continuity test of an exchange system having space division type 4-wire switching network. CONSTITUTION:A trunk 2 for call is connected to the service terminals 10, 11 for call of 4-wire type switching network 1. An audible sound receiver 3 is connected to a terminal for function other than continuity test, that is, a terminal 7 for ordinary sevice, and further the reception part 4 of this receiver 3 is connected to the terminals A, E of a test terminal 8 for continuity. An audible sound generator 5 is connected to the terminals B, D of the terminal 8. In the case of making the continuity test of the path between the terminal 10 and 11 when these terminals are connected, the terminal 7 is released of the connection to the other terminals in the network 1, and the path connecting the terminals 8 and 10 interrupts in the path to be tested and is double-connected. Next, the audible sound transmitted from the generator 5 passes through the terminals B, D of the terminals 8, 10, 11, is turned back by the call trunk 2 and is detected by the receiver 3 via the teminals A, E of the terminal 11, 10, 8.
