Abstract

1489741 Testing telecommunication systems POST OFFICE 17 Oct 1974 [17 July 1973] 33941/73 Heading H4K To test the continuity of a two-way transmission link between an originating station and a receiving station, communication in each direction being along a respective two-wire path, the paths are intercoupled at the originating station to form a looped transmission link and, before intelligence is exchanged, a test signal is transmitted from the receiving station and its return over the loop is monitored at the receiving station. Typically, a check is made of a path set up between a calling subscriber connected to a concentrator/muliplexer 40/41 and a called subscriber on concentrator/multiplexer 45/46, the path being via a p.c.m. link 42, a digital switching subsystem (DSS) 44 with its associated group control (GC) 43, a trunk circuit 50 and similar integers 49, 48, 47. The check is made in three parts, as shown. To carry out the check, each GC includes a digital test tone sender (52) two digital receivers (53, 54) and associated switches, Fig. 11 (not shown). Preferably the test signal is in digital form and represents a tone in the speech frequency band.
