Abstract

1489315 Compressing resin-impregnated steel wool FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 20 Feb 1975 7105/75 Heading B5A [Also in Divisions H3 and B7] An article such as a car body part or the casing of electronic equipment, is made by forming a layer of plastics, laying a mat of steel wool on the resin layer so that the resin impregnates the mat to form a sheet moulding material, and compression moulding the article therefrom. The steel wool provides radio frequency shielding. As described, a web of polythene film is led beneath successive dispensers of resin (polyester, epoxy, vinylester or phenolic resin), and the steel wool mat. A backing web of the film is applied, and the result rolled up for storage and later compression moulding. Glass fibres can also be applied before and/or after the steel wool, or as a combined mat.
