Abstract

1488915 Steering harvesters MASCHINENFABRIK FAHR AG GOTTMADINGEN 17 Dec 1974 [3 Jan 1974] 54530/74 Heading A1F [Also in Division G3] A system for steering a harvester such as that described in Specification 1474276 uses two crop line sensors 1, 87, at the front and rear of the machine respectively, and a crop detector 86, 86' ahead of the cutter which, when a gap is detected, causes disconnection of the front sensor, the steering being controlled by the rear sensor only. The sensors comprise feelers connected to potentiometers arranged in a bridge circuit to control an electro-hydraulic steering mechanism. Normally. the two sensors are connected in series but if a gap is detected by 86, and logic elements 91 change the sensor circuit over to one which includes a second potentiometer in sensor 87, that of sensor 1 being disconnected. The sensor 87 includes a switch which disconnects the system if it loses contact with the crop, the steering being locked in its last position. The harvester is stopped if both detectors 86, 86' detect absence of crop. The control system is otherwise as described in Specification 1474276.
