Abstract
1487462 Heat-treating cast steel SOC DES ACIERIES DE PARIS & D'OUTREAU 3 July 1975 [8 July 1974] 28034/75 Heading C7A A cast steel contains in percentage by weight C 0À09 - 0À15 Mn 1À3 - 1À8 Mo 0À15 - 0À35 Si 0À1 - 0À4 V 0À03 - 0À06 Nb/Ta 0À005 - 0À05 Al 0À015 - 0À05 Ti 0À002 - 0À04 Ni 0À1 - 0À3 Cr 0À1 - 0À25 S # 0À02 P < 0À03 Fe balance and is homogenized, air cooled, re-heated, hardened by water quenching and then tempered to produce a fine grained microstructure of low-carbon bainite and ferrite hardened by precipitates of the carbonitrides of V, Nb and/or Ta. The steel is characterized by an elastic limit not less than 550 N/mm<SP>2</SP>, an elastic limit/tensile strength ratio greater than 0À85, and an impact strength measured at - 50‹C of not less than 20 joules. Preferably the steel is cast at, 1600-1690‹C, homogenized at 900 1050‹C followed by air cooling, quenched from 875-950‹C, and tempered at 550-680‹C. The steel is characterized by good weldability and is used in ship building, civil engineering equipment, in the motor industry, and for railway equipment, particularly automatic couplings.
