1487297 Electrostatic precipitators ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS CORP 8 Oct 1975 [9 Oct 1974] 41329/75 Heading B2J In an electrostatic precipitator for removing particles from a gas in which particles freed from collector electrodes 30 collect on a surface 16 beneath the electrodes, a drag scraper 12 is provided to move the particles 24 along the surface 16 for removal at hopper 26, wherein the drag scraper 12 comprises an endless chain 14 to which are attached a number of scrapers 22, and a baffle assembly 28 is provided beneath the electrodes 30, 48 to prevent gas from flowing beneath the electrodes through the precipitator without passing between the electrodes, the baffle including upper and lower pivotal or flexible portions 32, 34 which are raised by the scrapers 22 on their upper and lower traverses and a baffle plate 36 provided beneath the upper pivotal portion 32 to prevent gas flow between portion 32 and the rest of the baffle as. portion 32 is raised. As shown, two such baffle assemblies are provided and the upper traverse of the scrapers 22 on the chain 14 is in the same direction as the gas flow through the precipitator. Preferably the scrapers 22 extend across the whole of the precipitator, and they may be in sections with a respective endless chain 14 for each section, Fig. 2 (not shown). The baffle assembly may include fixed cross members 38, 40 secured to the precipitator housing at each end with the pivotal members being connected to these members by chain links (60), Fig. 3 (not shown).
