1523927 Electrostatic precipitators ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS CORP 17 Dec 1975 51709/75 Heading B2J In an electrostatic precipitator, Fig. 1, in which each particle collecting hopper 28 is disposed beneath at least two of the sets of collector electrodes 20, there is provided, transverse to the gas flow, a baffle 30 extending from between the lower portions of adjacent sets of collector electrodes to the outlet 36 of the respective hopper, each baffle 30 comprising an upper rigid portion 32 and a lower flexible portion 38. The flexible portion of the baffle prevents the hopper outlet from being blocked by agglomerated lumps of precipitated particles and also deflects particle-laden gas into the precipitation region. As shown in Fig. 4 the lower portion 38 of the baffle comprises a support plate 40 welded to the upper rigid plate 60 and a number of link chains 44 hanging from the support plate 40, thus providing a flexible curtain which preferably extends for one third of the height of the baffle. Particles may be dislodged from the collector electrodes into respective hoppers by rapping one at a time each of the sets of collector electrodes associated with a hopper.
