Abstract
1487112 Diapers RIEGEL TEXTILE CORP 15 April 1975 [15 April 1974 24 July 1974 25 July 1974 (2)] 15507/75 Heading A5R [Also in Division B5] A disposable diaper comprises a fluid permeable top sheet 15 Fig. 25 and a fluid impermeable bottom sheet 19 bound together along their transverse and longitudinal edges and enclosing a fluid absorbent core that comprises a layer or pad of loose fibres 16 disposed between at least cellulosic layers 17 that are of greater width than the fibre layer or pad and which are embossed longitudinally at 18 to hold the cellulosic layers together and enclose the fibrous layer or pad to prevent it from moving during use. The top and bottom sheets are glued together along their edges with glue strips 19, 20; the longitudinal edges of the bottom sheet being folded over those of the upper sheet and being provided with tabs 151 for attachment to the wearer. During production the diaper longitudinal edges are folded twice to give the Fig. 4 form. To manufacture a preferred diaper a lower cellulosic layer is fed to a conveyor belt 58 Fig. 1B having spaced groups of perforations whereby a vacuum source pulls fibres from a fibre forming chamber at predetermined intervals to form spaced fibrous pads 16. These pads are covered with cellulosic layers and all of the cellulosic layers are embossed during passage through rollers 70, 71. Cutter 80 and anvil 81 provide transverse perforations at predetermined intervals and tension rollers 85, 86 tear the perforations such that separate absorbent cores are enclosed between the upper and lower top sheets 15, 19. Glue lines are formed by nozzles 121, 90. After the transverse and longitudinal seals have been made the longitudinal edges are folded to the Fig. 4 form by mechanisms 157, 162, 165 and the individual diapers formed by cutter roll 170. These diapers are folded as they are pushed down between conveyors 181 to a rack where they are formed into batches of predetermined number. The tabs 151 are attached via mechanisms 150.
