Abstract

1486780 Composition for detection of water EXXON RESEARCH & ENG CO 23 Dec 1974 [2 Jan 1974] 12058/77 Divided out of 1486779 Addition to 1208215 Heading G1B [Also in Division C4] A packaged composition for the detection of free water in a liquid hydrocarbon comprises a mixture of freshly ground fuchsia dye having a particle size or sizes between 44 and 74 microns, and a finely divided anhydrous solid having a surface area of 4 to 9m<SP>2</SP>/g, the solid being calcium carbonate, barium carbonate, barium sulphate, magnesium carbonate or a mixture thereof, the weight ratio of the dye to the solid being in the range 1:20 to 1:10,000, and the mixture having been prepared and sealed off from contact with moisture and air at the time of grinding of the dye. The composition is preferably packaged under vacuum in a pierceable vial (Cf Parent Specification 1486779).
