Abstract

1486282 Vacuum cleaners HOOVER Ltd 12 Sept 1974 [13 Sept 1973] _39894/74 Heading A4F [Also in Division F2] In a vacuum cleaner as disclosed in Specification No. 1486283 a connector 28 attached to the cleaner body and a mating connector 135 attached to the end of the suction hose 66 each have two passages therethrough, a main passage for dust laden air and an auxiliary passage whereby pneumatic control conduits 70, 64 are connected. As shown the conduit 64, which comprises in part tubing 128 running beside the hose 66, communicates with an axial bore 162 in the connector 135 which itself joins an arcuate groove 164 in the endface of the connector 135. The groove 164 communicates with bores 166, 168 in the connector 28, and thus with conduit 70, when the connectors 28, 135 are coupled. The coupling may as shown be by bayonet connection, a tubular fitting 174 surrounding connector 28 having cut-outs 180, 182, 182 in a flange 176 through which lugs 143, 142, 142 of the connector 135 can be passed, the cutout 180 being larger than cut-outs 182, and lug 143 being larger than lugs 142 and cut-outs 182 so that the coupling can be made in only one relative position of the connectors 28, 135. The end of suction hose 66 is secured in connector 135 by pins 146 on a hose crimp ring 148 engaging in bores 140 in the connector.
