Abstract
1485626 Capping aerosol cans WEEDON ENG CO Ltd 2 Sept 1974 [6 June 1973] 27102/73 Heading B8T The cap of an aerosol can is placed on the valve stem by the direct use of pneumatic pressure. Initially the frame 20 swings about the axis 22 to present the head 30 to a supply of caps. Suction is applied to the bore 52 to hold the cap in the bore and the frame is then swung back to the position shown in the figure. Meanwhile an indexing mechanism (not shown) places a can 10 in the position shown. Fluid pressure, preferably air, is applied through nozzle 38 to the chamber 36 to drive the piston 34 and the head 30 on to the can. Pneumatic pressure is then applied to the tapping 54 to blow the cap out of the bore 52 and on to the tube 12. The pressures applied to nozzle 38 and to bore 52 are continuously related. The lengths of the bolts 46 and the strength of the springs 44 are adjusted such that when the pressure in the bore 52 reaches the pressure in the can 10, the cylinder 28 is forced upwards over the piston 34 against the force of the springs 44. As flange 42 (attached to cylinder 28) moves upwards it operates the trip switch 60 which releases the pressure applied to the bore 52 and nozzle 38 and instead applies fluid pressure to the nozzle 40 to move the piston 34 upwards together with the head 30. Thereafter the indexing mechanism removes the capped can and a new cycle of operation starts.
