Abstract
1485551 Hydrodynamic brakes PARMAC Inc 3 Jan 1975 292/75 Heading F2E A hydrodynamic brake includes a rotor 24, Fig. 1, having vanes 58, Fig. 2, inclined in the intended direction of rotation 60, a stator 30 having vanes 56 inclined in a direction opposite that of rotation, a conduit 65 through each stator vane 56 connecting the back 32 of the stator with the space 62 between rotor and stator, and a gap 37 between the outer peripheral surface of the rotor 24 and an inner peripheral rim 36 of the stator 30. An inlet space 42 is provided between an end wall 12 of a housing 10, the back of the stator 30 and a circumferential lip 51 of the stator. An outlet space 44 is provided between the gap 37, the back 22 of the rotor and the other end wall 14 of housing 10; a flange 38 on the outer edge of the stator is secured between end walls 12 and 14. In Fig. 4 there are three rotor-stator pairs: the two rotors on the left are back-to-back, and the two stators on the right are back-to-back. In Fig. 3 (not shown) there are two rotorstator pairs with the two rotors back-to-back.
