Abstract

1485460 Hot gas engines PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN NV 28 Oct 1974 [31 Oct 1973] 46557/74 Heading F1S In a hot gas engine comprising heater pipes 7 which are situated inside a heat pipe 11, at at least one end the heater pipes are connected to a cylinder unit 1 or a regenerator unit 8 by a tubular connection member or members 16, 17 which or each of which extends in a direction extending transversely of the longitudinal axis of the respective unit and which or each of which passes through a wall of the heat pipe in a manner such as to allow relative movement between the latter wall and the tubular connection member or members in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis or axes of the connection member or members, flexible sealing means 18 being provided between the latter member or members and the wall of the heat pipe to permit such relative movement. The application of the invention to multi-cylinder double-acting hot gas engines is described. In a modification (not shown), the heater pipes open at both ends into a manifold and each manifold is connected with a cylinder or regenerator respectively by way of only one tubular connection member. The engine may be of V-type in which the cylinders and regenerator/ cooler units are arranged at an angle to each other.
