1485311 Luggage case SAMSONITE CORP 19 Aug 1974 [24 Aug 1973 25 March 1974] 36457/74 Heading A4G A stiffener for a luggage case 10, Fig. 1 comprises a flexible elongate member preferably of extruded plastics, e.g. p.v.c, secured to and in contact with the top, bottom and end walls of an open shell 11 of flexible material forming part of the case and having a cover 12. As described the luggage case 10, comprises a shell 11 and a cover 12 joined by a zipper 13. The shell and cover each have top, bottom, end and back walls and are of leather, vinyl or fabric. The stiffener in the form of an extruded p.v.c. frame 20 extends over the inner surfaces of the top, end 15, 16, and part of the bottom wall, of the shell 11 and is secured thereto by rivets 25. The frame has parallel ribs 21, 22, Fig. 2 spaced by a web 23. At the corners and beneath the handle 31 of the shell 11 are provided sheet-like members 29, 30, which engage in a groove where the back wall is joined to the other walls by a bead. The handle is carried by bands 27, 28 stitched to the shell 11 and held to the frame 20 by the rivets 25.
