Abstract

1484064 Lampshades R F HOOKER 10 Oct 1974 43950/74 Heading F4R [Also in Division G5] A polyhedral structure, is of generally "toroidal" shape about a central axis y, and comprises a number of planar triangles such as 2, 3, 4, 5 hinged together at their sides such as 11, 12, 13, so that the structure can be rotated about its core into various different stable constructions and of which is radially substantially symmetrical about the central axis. Various embodiments are described, some of which involve triangles having all three sides unequal. The structure may be formed from a flat blank having score lines which constitute the hinges 11, 12, 13 (Fig. 1, not shown), or from a blank comprised of individual rigid plastics triangles joined together by thin plastics strips. Alternatively, the blank may be of cardboard having a thermoplastic layer laminated thereto. The structure may be used as an educational or amusement device, for advertizing or display purposes, or it may be illuminated from within, the structure then being windowed or partly or wholly transparent or translucent. Different triangles may be differentially coloured or textured to provide various ornamental effects.
