Abstract

1483494 Continuous lamination of plastics with textiles DEUTSCHE GOLDUND SILBERSCHEIDEANSTALT 30 Oct 1974 [31 Oct 1973] 46951/74 Heading B5N A laminate, e.g. an imitation leather, is made by continuously coating a preformed plastics sheet I with a heat-activatable binder 4, applying thereto a textile backing 5, guiding the assembly with the backed side against a heated non-adhesive surface 9, cooling, e.g. by a roller 14, and winding the laminate on to a roller 15. The surface 9 may be a polished or antiadhesive coated roller, table or belt, and may move at a speed 3-10% above that of the assembly being fed on to it. The plastics sheet 1 may be of vinyl chloride homopolymer or copolymer, polyurethane, polyamide or polyolefin and may be given conventional finishing treatments which are exemplified at any stage, particularly embossing at 13 after heating at 12. One or more plastics sheets may be present, and one or more of them may be foamed. The backing 5 may be a non-woven or warp knit fabric of polyester, polyacrylonitrile or polyamide, and may be smoothed by a spreader roller 7. The binder 4 may be a gellable PVC paste (requiring the surface 9 to be at 120- 190‹ C.) or a thermoplastic, solvent or dispersion adhesive.
