Abstract

1483320 Air heating stoves HEAT RESEARCH CORP 25 June 1976 26634/76 Heading F4S In an air heater in which flow space 21 for combustion gases from one or more burners 37 is formed between a cylindrical shell 12 and a portion 25 of a sleeve 13 coaxially mounted within the shell and through which sleeve passes the air being heated, the shell is fixedly supported (by means not shown) at a position at or axially spaced from, one end of the shell (i.e. adjacent either end or anywhere along its length) and is resiliently supported at one or more positions axially remote from the fixed support by bellows members such as 28, 31 located at either end or as shown at both ends, of the shell. In the apparatus shown a radiant heating zone 22 is formed above the one or more burners 37 said zone varying in axial extent according to the intensity of heating utilized. Above the radiant heating zone the stream 34 of combustion gases flows through the annular channel 21 constituting a convection input passage to a plenum chamber 38 with an exhast gas outlet 39. The air and combustion gases may pass through the apparatus in countercurrent (as shown) or in cocurrent relation. An annular baffle 35 defines with the sleeve portion 25 a convection output passage 36, the sleeve portion 25 being provided with fins 42 extending into the convection input and convection output passages. The fins 42 may comprise longitudinal fins (as shown), helical fins (Figs. 2 and 4) or pin fins (Fig. 3).
