Abstract

148,295. Silvietti, A. Nov. 2, 1918, [Convention date]. Sinking, preventing.-Ships, when damaged, are rendered unsinkable by means of bags a, b of flexible material protected by rope netting. In the event of damage to the vessel, hand or power pumps l supply compressed air or gas through pipes h connected to each bag, so that the water is driven out and buoyancy preserved. Safety valves are fitted to the bags. The bags are attached to the decks by hooks d, and may also be introduced into the interior. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 18/79, 6728/85, 19714/94, 3938/96, and 42/00, [all in Class 68, Hydraulic engineering].
