Abstract

J FITZGERALD 27 Aug 1974 [2 Oct 1973] 45914/73 Heading G5C [Also in Division B7 and E1] A detachable auxiliary registration plate for application to a fluorescent or luminous zone of a motor vehicle is reducible in length to facilitate carrying thereof when removed from a parked vehicle, it being intended that all vehicles should display such an auxiliary plate while being driven by an authorized user. On parking, the driver detaches and collapses the plate to keep on his person so that driving of the vehicle without this plate will indicate theft thereof, the auxiliary plate bearing the same registration number as the standard front and rear plates of the vehicle. Alternatively or additionally, the presence of the auxiliary plate indicates that the vehicle is insured. The auxiliary plate may consist of a number of hingedly connected sections or telescoping sections or be composed of a flexible material which can be rolled up. For attachment to the vehicle, means such as brackets, press studs, clips or magnets may be employed. At least some of the registration indicia on the plate may be coloured to match the vehicle.
