Abstract

1482581 Preventing slack in flexible elements PERARD ENG Ltd 24 March 1975 [29 March 1974] 13928/74 Heading B8B An arrangement for preventing slack in a loop of supply cable 15 extending between a fixed source and a winning machine 14 movable along a mineral face comprises a cable guide 50 movable with the machine 14 and engaging the cable end adjacent the machine, and cable carriers 16 spaced along the path of machine travel for supporting the looped cable. Each cable carrier 16 comprises a side wall 18 extending up from a clevis rail 13 of a spill plate 12 associated with a mineral face conveyer 11, and a spring closed gate 19 extending between the spill plate 12 and the top of the side wall 18 to form an enclosure for the cable. The guide 50 is mounted for sliding movement along a rail 31 formed integrally with the top edge of the spill plate 12, and is provided with a vertical cable receiving aperture on the clevis rail side of the spill plate, the buide being attached by chains to the winning machine 14. A camplate 58 depending from the guide 50 engages each gate 19 as it passes thereby, to open the gate against spring bias to deposit the upper run of cable loop into the carrier. In a further embodiment, a tension detecting device is incorporated in the chains between the guide and the winning machine, to provide a warning and automatically stop the machine to prevent excessive strain.
