Abstract
1,161,241. Taking up slack in supply cables. conveyer framework. T. M. INGRAM. 19 Sept., 1967 [24 June, 1966], No. 28396/66. Headings B8A and B8B. Cable handling equipment associated with a coal cutting machine 5 comprises a frame 8 movable along half the length of a trough formed between spill plates mounted along the gob side of a face conveyer, the machine supply cables extending from an anchor 15 along the trough to pass over a drum 9 on the frame 8 and back along the trough to an attachment 12 on the machine 5. A haulage rope which coextends with the cables between the anchorage 15 and the machine attachment 12, further extends over a fixed return pulley 17 at one end of the face, over a drive pulley 19 at the other end of the face, around a pulley 11 on the frame 8, and is anchored at 22. With the rope being driven by pulley 19, the frame 8 will be caused to move at half the velocity of the machine 5. A flexible belt extending between the anchorage 15 and the attachment 12 separates the haulage rope from the cables. The frame 8 comprises a roller which engages the top side of the trough base and a wheeled carriage mounted on a web depending from the frame base and passing through a slot in the trough base, whereupon the wheels engage the underside of the trough. Angled rollers at the ends of the frame 8 engage and lift hinged lids on each trough of a conveyer section as the frame moves along, the lids gravitationally closing as the frame leaves that section.
