Abstract

1396793 Mineral mining installations GEWERKSCHAFT EISENHUTTE WESTFALIA 13 July 1972 [14 July 1971] 32803/72 Heading E1F A mineral mining installation, of the type in which a chain driven winning machine (not shown) extends alongside a longwall scraper chain conveyor, has a drive station comprising: a frame, with side 16, 16' and horizontal 30, walls, carrying a drive drum for the chains 31 of the conveyor; and a housing 10 carrying a drive wheel 19 for the chain 24, 25 of the winning machine; the housing being displaceable in relation to the frame. As shown in Fig. 5, the housing 10 is moved by a piston and cylinder unit 38 on a rail 37 parallel to the conveyor; the movement being either to the position shown at 19' to expose the wheel 19 or in the opposite direction to expose the bearing of drum 17 which is reached by removing a cover 18. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 7 the housing 10 is also movable on guides 41 extending in a transverse direction. A single piston and cylinder unit 31 which is swingable through 90‹ is used to effect both movements, but a separate unit may be used for each movement. In a further version the facility for moving the housing in a direction parallel to the conveyor may be dispensed with. The drive wheel 19 is provided with means to guide the chain onto and off the wheel e.g. a wedge shaped member (22) secured to the housing between the chain runs adjacent the wheel (Figs. 1, 2 not shown) and a detachable housing cover (18) may accommodate part of the wheel and be provided with a guide surface (Figs. 3 and 4 not shown).
