Abstract
1482411 Centrifugal pumps INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO Ltd 30 July 1974 [25 May 1973] 25220/73 Heading F1C [ Also in Divisions F4 and H2] A machine with a rotor 3 has a closed circuit rotor cooling system which includes a liquidcoolant circulation pump 6 and a heat exchanger 5, the pump 6 having a casing 8 which is connected for rotation by the rotor 3, and having rotatably mounted within the casing 8 an impeller 7 which is constructed for interaction with a field of force acting through the casing whereby upon rotation of the rotor 3 there is relative rotation between the impeller 7 and the casing 8. In the machine shown, the impeller 7 has its centre of gravity arranged eccentrically relative to its central axis, e.g. by means of masses 10, or by using blades of differing mass, and gravitational forces cause the impeller to be restrained from rotating; the relative rotation between the rotating casing and the stationary impeller produces the desired pumping action. In Figs 3-4 (not shown), an impeller includes a magnetized armature (11) which is electromagnetically either held at rest or rotated in the opposite direction relative to the pump casing.
