The recess 10 and slit 10<SP>1</SP> are closed at both sides of the head 3<SP>1</SP> so that the lateral ends of the coupling 2 are held, but the closure at one side is a spring-loaded pivoted plate (19) which allows lateral movement of the head and starter bar (3) by means of elongated raisable and axially movable supports 6, without corresponding movement of the casting 1, so that the bar is disconnected. 1482198 Mounting components on to boards MARCONI CO Ltd 23 Sept 1974 [13 Oct 1973] 47914/73 Heading B3A Apparatus for aiding the assembly of components having wire leads on to a component board 32 comprises a member 20 having a plurality of apertures 21-24 defining holes in the component board through which leads of components are inserted, a device for illuminating selected apertures in the member 20 in dependence upon the type of component whose leads are to be inserted, and a spacer member 27 having a plurality of holes 28-31 corresponding to and aligned with the apertures 21-24, in operation the spacer member being placed between a component board and the member 20. Light bulbs 1 are mounted within a case 2 which includes a rotary switch 6 which is wired to illuminate individual light bulbs and display a number according to a corresponding switch position. A plate 12 having a plurality of apertures 13 is mounted on dowel pins 8, 9 in the case. Each aperture can accept the ends of a number of pairs of light fibres 14, 15. A plate 20 is spaced from the plate 12 on spacers 16-19 and has apertures 21-24, each of which accept only one light fibre provided in the plate 12. The number and disposition of the apertures in the plate 20 is programmed in accordance with the printed circuit board 32 to be provided with components. An imperforate sheet 26 of light conductive material is located on pins 25 on the plate 20 and a spacer plate 27 made of perspex is also located on the pins 25, the board 32 being located above the plate 27. The holes 28-31 serve as holes for insertion of the component leads and act as light guides from apertures 21-24. The sheet 26 prevents component leads damaging the ends of light fibres inserted in the plate 20. Each switch position identifies components of a type and value to be inserted in the board. Coupled to each switch position is a light bulb 31 arranged on a lead which can be attached to a component carrying tray 32<SP>1</SP>. A programmed unit formed by plates 12, 20, sheet 26, plate 27 and fibre optic pairs 14, 15 can be changed to suit a particular printed circuit board arrangement. Coloured filters may be provided below plate 12 to indicate a particular orientation of a component on the board.
