Abstract
1482014 Phase comparators PYE Ltd 8 Oct 1974 43519/74 Heading H3A In a phase comparator for comparing two harmonically related pulse inputs 1, 5 the lower frequency input signal is applied to a pulse generator 8 which produces a pulse at its output during each period of the input to it, the pulse having a width less than that of the input and not equal to an integral number of periods of the other input signal 1. The pulse generator output and the input 1 are applied to a coincidence detector, e.g. an AND gate 4, which produces an output characteristic of the phase difference. The output is fed to an integrator R1, C1, the capacitor C1 of which is periodically reset by a pulse from a second pulse generator 16. Both pulse generators may be monostables. In place of an AND gate, the coincidence detector may comprise a circuit whose output switches between two different frequencies. The comparator may be used in an afc loop Fig. 5 (not shown).
