Abstract

1481666 Air filters MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 29 Jan 1975 [30 Jan 1974] 3884/75 Heading BIT [Also in Division B5] Room and respiratory air filters comprise a filter medium wherein porous webs, e.g. compacted non-woven polyethylene terephthalate fabrics, sandwich one or more layers of micro fibres of average diameter less than 0.5 micrometres (see Div B4-5). In a room air filter, a blower moves air from an inlet to an outlet and the filter medium is disposed across the air path, e.g. as a web which is advanced at 2 inch/day or less from a supply roll to a takeup roll. The microfibres may be air-attenuated solution-blown polymer fibres (suitable polymers being specified) and the layer(s) thereof may be formed in situ on one of the porous webs, may weigh less than 0.06 lb/yd<SP>2</SP>, and are generally non-self-supporting. Relationships between face velocity, particle penetration and pressure drop are specified.
