Abstract

1481415 Hydraulic press HAWKER SIDDELEY WATER ENG Ltd 6 Aug 1974 [27 Aug 1973] 40326/73 Heading B1D A hydraulic press having perforated sides and bottom 5 for compacting sewage screenings has a piston operated ram 7 and cutting head 11 to compact screenings 1 from conveyor 2. The speed of operation of the ram may be varied by switching into operation circuits 20-21 and 22-23 to operate in parallel with circuit 15-19. An increase in quantity of screenings to be compacted may be detected by weight on conveyor 2, pressure differential at the screen or water level sensor at treatment plant input. Such an increase initiating manual or automatic switching into circuit of solenoid operated valves 20 and 22 to increase flow of hydraulic fluid to and from piston 8. Valves 19, 21 and 23 are flow rate controlling valves. A controllable non-return valve 18 allows selective flow of hydraulic fluid to reservoir 12 from cylinder 9 through channel switching valve 15. The flow of hydraulic fluid may be varied at different times of day by a timer.
