Abstract

1397133 Dewatering press VICKERYS Ltd 19 June 1973 [30 June 1972] 30804/72 Heading B1D A dewatering press for animal manure comprises a cylinder 10 with one piston 16 sliding therein and second piston 13 closing one end, one or both pistons being filtering pistons and the advance of piston 16 closing inlet 11 for the manure. Piston 16 advances leftwards from the position shown squeezing a batch of manure between pistons 13, 16, and as the pressure rises a release valve (30) allows piston 13 to move leftwards so that piston 16 ejects a disc of compressed manure from the open end of cylinder 10. The movement of piston 13 actuates switch 31 to change over valve (33), so that piston 13 is then moved positively leftwards, and to change over valve (27) to reverse piston 16. When piston 13 engages switch 32 the movement of piston 13 is reversed, while limit switch 37 reverses piston 16 to move leftwards again. Fig. 4 (not shown) illustrates the complete pneumatic or hydraulic control-drive circuit for Fig. 1. Fig. 3 (not shown) illustrates a double-acting version. Pistons 13, 16 comprise perforate plates with wire mesh screen on one side and rubber diaphragms serving as non-return valves on the other. The pistons may have means for flushing them with water, steam or insecticide. Filtrate drains out at 25, 26. The manure fed to funnel 12 may be the solid fraction from a screening device as in Specification 1196303, which removes fine solids therefrom.
