Abstract

1291080 Scoop-arm machines D G LUCK 19 Dec 1969 62024/69 Heading E1F [Also in Division F1] A ram 6 operatively connected to an implement is supplied with fluid from a hydraulic circuit by which under overload conditions of the ram 6 fluid is by-passed to a motor 13 also operatively connected to the implement. The application is to an excavator in which the implement is a shovel and the motor 13 drives eccentrics, Figs. 3 to 5 (not shown), to give intermittent added force to the shovel. Under overload conditions a valve 12 opens to feed fluid to the motor 13 and operation of the eccentrics exerts further pressure on the shovel with a reaction on the ram 6 causing further build up of pressure which at a certain value operates a valve 15. If the further pressure is of short duration fluid flows through a line 17 and a throttle 18 to the reservoir 7 but if the further pressure is maintained the throttle 18 will not pass all the fluid which then operates a fast-opening, slow closing valve 20 to close the line to the ram 6 and pass fluid from the latter through the motor 13. The valve 20 may be omitted, Fig. 1 (not shown).
