Abstract

1481095 Coated xerographic carrier particles FUJI XEROX CO Ltd 10 Sept 1974 [10 Sept 1973] 39511/74 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions C3 and G2] Toner carrier particles comprise a core, e.g. of NaCl, NH 4 Cl, potassium aluminium chloride, Rochelle salt, NaNO 3 , potassium chlorate, granular zirconium, granular silicon, polymethyl methacrylate, glass, silicon dioxide, flint shot, iron, steel, ferrites, nickel, carborundum or mixtures thereof, coated with a polymer containing units represented by one of the general formulae (I) and (II) where R' and R<SP>2</SP> stand for a hydrocarbon residue having 1 to 12 carbon atoms and Z represents the atoms needed to complete a nitrogen containing heterocyclic group of up to 25 C atoms. Suitable monomers include vinyl compounds substituted with a residue of the formulae specified above, e.g. styrene, alkyl acrylates, alkyl methacrylates, ethylene, propylene, vinyl acetate and butadiene. Such substituted monomers include p-aminomethylstyrene, p-dimethylaminostyrene, dimethylaminomethyl acrylate, dimethylaminoethyl acrylate, dimethylaminopropyl acrylate diethylaminomethyl acrylate, diethylaminoethyl acrylate, dimethylamino methyl methacrylate, dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate, vinyl carbazole, vinyl pyridine, vinylpyrrolidone, vinyl pyrrole, vinyl piperidine, vinyl morpholine, vinyl quinoline, vinyl indole, vinyl irridazole, vinylbenzimidazole. Suitable comonomers include methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, isopropyl acrylate, n-butyl acrylate, sec-butyl acrylate, tert-butyl acrylate, 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, neopentyl acrylate, dodecyl acrylate, hexyldecyl acrylate, tetradecyl acrylate, cyclohexyl acrylate, α-chloromethyl acrylate, α-chloroethyl acrylate, 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate, 2-hydroxypropyl acrylate, 3-hydroxypropyl acrylate, diethylene glycol monoacrylate, methyl methacrylate, isopropyl methacrylate, n-butyl methacrylate, sec-butyl methacrylate, tert-butyl methacrylate, 2-ethylhexyl methacrylate, neopentyl methacrylate, dodecyl methacrylate, hexyldecyl methacrylate, tetradecyl methacrylate, cyclohexyl methacrylates, α- chloromethyl methacrylate, α-chloroethyl methacrylate, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate, 2- hydroxypropyl methacrylate, 3-hydroxypropyl methacrylate and diethylene glycol monomethacrylate and compounds of the styrene series such as α-vinylstyrene, vinyl toluene, 4-bromostryrene, 4-chloro-3-fluorostryrene, 2-chlorostyrene, 2, 5-dichlorostyrene, 2, 5-difluorostyrene, 2, 4-dimethyl styrene and 4-ethylstyrene. The units (I) and (II) may be incorporated into cellulose, natural rubber, polyesters, polyacid anhydrides, polyacetols, polyamides, phenol aldehyde resins, urea-aldehyde resins, polyurethanes, polyurea resins, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl ester, polystyrene, polyacrylates, polyvinyl ester, polystyrene, polyacrylates, polymethacrylates, polyacrylonitrile, polymethacrylonitrile, polyvinyl ether, polyisobutylene and polybutadiene.
