Abstract

1482395 Electrostatographic developers A B DICK CO 9 Oct 1975 [9 Oct 1974] 41493/75 Heading G2H [Also in Division C3] A dry electrophotographic developer in powder form comprises a mixture of carrier particles and toner particles wherein the carrier particles comprise particles of aluminium or an alloy thereof having an oxidized surface but no further coating thereon and the toner particles comprise one or more tinctorial agents and a binder, said binder comprising a styrene-butyl methacrylate copolymer. The carrier particles preferably have diameters of 300-900 microns and the toner particles diameters of 2-20 microns. Other binders such as vinyl polymers, polyamides, polyacrylates and butadiene/ styrene or vinyl toluene copolymers may be used in combination with the styrene-butyl methacrylate copolymer and the toner and carrier may be mixed in the ratio of one part by weight toner to 40-200 parts by weight carrier. In the specific Examples the toner composition comprises styrene-butyl methacrylate copolymer, polyvinyl butyral, carbon black, a blue dyestuff and optionally zinc stearate or fumed silica and zinc stearate.
