Abstract

1481030 Suction devices W S FORTUNE 14 Aug 1974 [17 Aug 1973] 35729/74 Heading A5R [Also in Divisions B4 and Fl] In a vacuum device for removing small foreign objects from the body, a cocking tube 26 is provided to force a piston assembly 18 forwards against the action of a main spring 36 until an abutment 44 of a trigger 46 engages the rear end of an alignment shaft 24 of the piston assembly. The cocking tube is biassed outwardly by means of a second spring 30. In order to clean out the tip assembly 14 by means of a cleaning rod 22 of the piston assembly 18, the cocking tube is further advanced into a position (Fig. 2 not shown) which serves as a storage and transportation position and in which a latch 50 of the trigger 46 engages in a slot 52 in the cocking tube. To replace the tip assembly 14 the cocking tube is advanced still further to a position (Fig. 3 not shown) in which the tip assembly is ejected by the piston assembly. The rear end of cylinder body 12 is provided with a rotatable sleeve valve 80 which enables the rate of suction of the device to be adjusted.
