Abstract

1480845 Surge arresters SIEMENS AG 3 July 1974 [3 July 1973] 29567/74 Heading H2H A surge arrester comprises a series arrangement of at least one spark gap 4 and at least one voltage dependent resistor 7, the or each resistor comprising a semi-conductive material the discharge current through which will rise, as the surge voltage across the material rises, in dependence on the ratio of the increasing voltage values across the material raised to the exponent α where α is at least ten. The resistors are made of zinc oxide doped with metal oxide and are located in a porcelain housing 1 provided with sealing caps 2, 3. In a modification the housing contains sulphur hexafluoride gas.
