Abstract

1480726 Box pallet; boxes ROSS & BONNYMAN (ENG) Ltd 1 July 1974 [11 July 1973] 33003/73 Headings B8H and B8P [Also in Divisions B7 and E2] A load container (not shown) comprises a rear wall, a base platform horizontally hinged to the rear wall and two side walls which are hinged to a respective side of the rear wall so that the side walls can swing inwardly and outwardly, the container further comprising means for locking the base platform in its lower (horizontal) operative position. The said means comprises a castor plate 1 fixed to, and projecting inwardly from, the bottom front portion of each side wall, each plate 1 having castors attached to its lower surface and a key-hole shaped slot 3 formed therein with an angle piece 4 secured to its underside so as to provide a limb or platform extending below the wider portion of slot 3. The base platform is provided with a stud 5 at each corner for engagement with the castor plate 1 on the associated side wall, each stud 5 having a head 6 and shank 7. When the base platform is being lowered to its operative position the hinged side walls are in a slightly splayed or swung-apart position relative to each other and each stud 5 enters the wider portion of the associated slot 3 such that its head 6 rests on the platform of the associated angle piece 4. The side walls are then swung towards each other so that the shank 7 of each stud 5 enters the narrower part of the associated slot 3 and then the stud head 6 slips off the platform of the angle piece 4 so that the stud 5 drops downwardly and the base platform is then in locking engagement with the castor plates 1. In order to raise the base platform to an inoperative position it must first be raised slightly so that the stud heads 6 clear the associated platforms and then the side walls are swung outwardly so that the head 6 of each stud 5 is located below the wider portion of the associated slot 3, and then the base platform can be raised fully. In a modification the base platform is pivotally mounted on one of the side walls instead of on the rear wall. The container also has a front closure comprising a door hinged to one of the side walls.
