Abstract

1480372 Selective printing BUNKER RAMO CORP 19 July 1974 [6 Aug 1973] 32176/74 Heading B6F A printer with a moving type carriage 22 driven by a reversible motor 42, whose reversal changes the direction of movement of the carriage 22 includes sensors 50L, 50R detecting the presence of the carriage at the ends of its linewise movement and so causing reversal of the motor 42. The control system (not shown) responding to the sensors causes the motor 42, when printing is completed, to stop the carriage at the end of a traverse by reverse rotation of the motor 42 for sufficient time to halt the carriage 22. As shown the sensors 50L, 50R include light emitters 52L, 52R and photocells 54L, 54R between which shutters 28L, 28R respectively pass. Rubber bumpers 30L, 30R are provided on carriage rail 18. Printing may occur in one or both directions of movement of the carriage 22. The motor which may be D.C., bushless or stepping is controlled by a push-pull amplifier in turn controlled by an "enabling" flip flop and a "forward/reverse" flip flop which receive signals from sensors 50L, 50R and input print signals. One shot circuits provide the signal for the reverse rotation of the motor 42 to halt the carriage 22.
