Abstract

A glass sheet 1 moving continuously forward on rollers 2 is cut transversely by a cutter 5 moving along an oblique guide 3 at a controlled speed determined by the speed of the glass and the angle #q made by the guide with the normal to the direction of movement of the glass sheet. The speed of the sheet is sensed by a roller 17 driving a pulse generator 19 actuating a counter <PICT:1103343/C1/1> 20 from which trains of pulses pass to an amplifier 21 driving a pulse motor 12 which in turn controls a coupled hydraulic motor driving a chain 10 coupled to the cutter carriage 4. One train of pulses drives the cutter across the sheet, the cutter then being lifted from the sheet by a lug 6 engaging a member 7. After a predetermined number of pulses (not fed to amplifier 21), during which the cutter rests at the end of its travel, a second train of pulses of reversed polarity returns the cutter to the starting position at which there is a further rest period. The rest periods are adjusted in accordance with the size of cut glass sheet required. A pulse counter control circuit is described.
